The reply-all email arrived with genuine warmth, naming seven people for their contribution to the project. Six of them had actually worked on it, put in real hours, earned the mention completely.
The seventh had nothing to do with it. Not one task, not one meeting, nothing. Somehow still landed on the list, credited alongside everyone who'd actually built the thing.
Nobody corrected the email. Not the manager who sent it, not any of the six who actually did the work. And the seventh person spent the entire week graciously accepting congratulations from colleagues, never once mentioning that the credit wasn't really theirs to take.
