Mom: "What is blockchain?"

Me: "Imagine a digital ledger that everyone can verify..."

Mom: "Who owns it?"

Me: "Nobody. Everybody. Kind of."

Mom: "So everyone can see it, but nobody owns it?"

Me: "Yes... more or less."

Mom: "Sounds like a diary left in the middle of the market."

Spent another twenty minutes trying to explain mining, nodes, decentralisation, and why crypto isn't the same as those chit funds she remembers from the 90s.

She listened patiently, nodded once, said, "Hmm, I still trust the bank more."

Wanted to argue. Instead just opened my portfolio, saw the usual red, locked the phone, and quietly admitted her explanation somehow made more sense than mine.
