My brother never looks at the market. Not once, not ever. Five years ago he set up an SIP, and then he just forgot about it. That was the whole extent of his involvement. Set it, walked away, never thought about it again.
For five full years he didn't check it. Not during crashes, not during rallies, not out of curiosity, never. The app might as well have not existed for him. Meanwhile I was in there daily, watching, trading, stressing, doing everything "right" and active.
He looked at it recently, almost by accident. And the number was better than what I'd managed to build through five years of active trading. Five years of my effort, my screen time, my constant decisions, and my brother's set-and-forget SIP quietly came out ahead.
It's a strange thing to sit with. He did nothing. Literally nothing beyond the initial setup. No skill, no attention, no effort. And that nothing outperformed all my something. Turns out the market didn't reward how hard I worked at it. It rewarded him for leaving it completely alone.
