It came in at 11am on a Tuesday. Margin call. And I did not have the funds sitting ready to cover it. Not even close, not at that moment.

So I did what any composed adult would do. I sat at my desk at work, looking perfectly normal, nodding in a meeting, replying to emails, projecting complete calm. Meanwhile, under the table, on my phone, I was frantically shuffling money between three different accounts. Transfer here, wait for it to clear, move it there, refresh, panic, repeat. For six hours.

Covered it with eleven minutes to spare. Eleven. That's how close it got before the whole thing would've been force-closed on me.

And nobody at the office knew. Not a single person. I sat through an entire workday having a full silent financial crisis two feet from my colleagues, and kept a straight face the whole time. Still haven't told anyone there. Some things just stay under the table.
