My mother grew up with very little and spent most of her married life carefully managing a limited household budget. Even now, when the family is financially comfortable, her relationship with money hasn't changed much.

Yesterday she wanted a pair of sandals that cost around ₹1,800. She liked them but immediately put them back and said they were too expensive. This is the same woman who wouldn't think twice before spending much more on something for me or my siblings. I bought them for her, but she spent half the evening asking why I wasted money.

Have your parents ever become comfortable spending on themselves after a lifetime of saving, or does that mindset stay forever?
