For most of my 20s, moving abroad was a major goal. I eventually got the opportunity and have been living outside India for a few years. Professionally and financially, it has been good.

What surprises me is what I miss. Not festivals or famous food. I miss hearing random street vendors, arguing with a local shopkeeper, dropping into a friend's house without planning two weeks ahead and my mother asking whether I ate. Whenever I visit India, the chaos irritates me again within days, so clearly nostalgia is selective.

For people who moved abroad long-term, did you ever stop feeling divided between two places?
