Someone recently asked what my mother does for fun and I couldn't answer. She watches TV sometimes and talks to relatives, but I genuinely don't know what she enjoys purely for herself.

For most of her adult life, her routine revolved around children, household work and family responsibilities. Now we've moved out and she has more time, but she seems lost without someone needing something from her. I suggested classes and activities, but she says she is too old to start.

How do you help a parent discover hobbies when they have spent decades defining themselves through family?
