I've been dating someone for about five months and overall things are good.
We both earn. We usually split bigger expenses. Dinner, tickets, trips, etc. No problem.
But she tracks everything.
And I mean everything.
₹60 parking? Split.
₹40 water bottles? Split.
₹110 auto ride? Split.
Last weekend she came to my place and I ordered chai and sandwiches for us. Total was around ₹380. That night I got a payment request for ₹95 because apparently she had paid for our coffee earlier and this was the “balance adjustment.”
I'm not offended about ₹95.
I'm confused by the mental energy.
Sometimes I pay, sometimes you pay, over months it roughly balances out. That's how I've always handled close relationships.
She says this system prevents resentment and keeps everything fair.
Maybe she has a point.
But romance with monthly reconciliation feels like I'm dating an accounts department.
People in long-term relationships: do you actually track small expenses this closely?
