I've kept a trading journal for three years. And today, for the first time, I sat down and read the whole thing at once, start to finish, in one go. I'd never done that before. I'd write entries and move on, never actually going back to look at the full picture.

Reading it all together was a shock. The same mistakes were repeating. Over and over, roughly every six months, just wearing a different name each time. Same emotional trade, same overconfidence, same revenge trade after a loss, same greed at the top. Different stock, different month, but underneath it was the exact same mistake on a loop.

Seeing that pattern laid out plainly actually scared me a little. It's one thing to make a mistake. It's another to watch yourself make the identical mistake six times across three years and call it "bad luck" each time. The journal didn't let me pretend anymore. It was all right there in my own handwriting.

So now I've changed one thing. Before every single trade, I go back and check the old journal first. I look at what past-me did in a similar setup and how it turned out. It's slowed me down, made me second-guess the impulsive stuff. Turns out the most useful trading tool I had was sitting in a notebook I'd never bothered to actually read.
