Today something strange happened, and honestly, I was just seconds away from falling for it.
I got a call from my bhabhi saying I’d be receiving ₹12,000 from Anganwadi, and she had given my number for the payment. I assumed it might be some government scheme, so I casually agreed.
After a while, I received another call. On Truecaller, it showed “Anganwadi.” A woman said she got my number from my bhabhi and would send the money. She mentioned ₹12,000 can’t be sent in one go, so she’d split it into two parts. Sounded normal, so I said okay.
Then she said she sent ₹7,000.
But when I checked, it wasn’t money received — it was a payment request.
That’s when it clicked instantly.
I started questioning her. She even dropped some accurate local details (like our area’s BLO) to sound legit. But the moment I pointed out that this would deduct money from my account, she immediately hung up.
If I had taken even a second longer, I might’ve approved it without thinking.
Stay alert — these scams are getting smarter.
