It's been 40 years since an Indian PM last set foot in New Zealand, and Modi made sure Auckland felt it. Talks with Christopher Luxon centred on cashing in the Free Trade Agreement the two countries quietly signed back in April.
"This marks a historic milestone in our relationship, one that revitalises our ties," Modi said, thanking Luxon for pushing the deal through fast. Luxon went further, announcing a full Strategic Partnership to widen cooperation beyond trade.
