We had been planning to buy a larger home for our two children. My husband always handled investments, so I assumed our down-payment was ready. When the bank asked for statements, he kept delaying the application. Finally, one night he admitted that most of our liquid savings were gone.
He had lost around ₹92 lakh over two years in index and stock options. Some of that money came from loans I did not know existed. I felt as if I had been living with a stranger. We cancelled the home purchase, sold our second car and started debt counselling. I have not decided whether I fully forgive him, but at least the lying has stopped.
