Got the classic announcement from my parents: a "nice boy/girl from a good family" had reached out through a relative. That was the entire briefing. No name that stuck, no details, zero further context provided upfront. Just the two mandatory descriptors, "nice" and "good family," which apply to literally everyone in these setups.

Reasonably, I asked for a photo. At minimum. A single image, to know the most basic thing about who I'm being pointed toward.

The response: "pehle baat toh karo." Talk first. As if agreeing to a conversation with a total stranger, sight unseen, is the neutral starting point and asking what they look like is the unreasonable demand.

The information asymmetry here is structurally, hilariously one-sided. The relatives know everything. My parents know a fair bit. The other family has presumably seen my details. And I, the actual person expected to potentially marry someone, am given the least information of anyone involved and told to just "baat karo" my way toward clarity.
