my daughter had to draw a family portrait for school. and she took it seriously. four humans, all of us, each correctly drawn with two arms. proportions roughly right. good effort, proud dad moment.

then there's the dog. also two arms. not paws, arms. full human arms. standing upright on two legs like the rest of us. and in one of those arms he is holding what is unmistakably a cup of tea.

so in her version of the family, the dog is basically the fifth person. same build, same limbs, just casually enjoying a beverage alongside everyone.

the teacher's only feedback on the whole thing was "very creative interpretation of family." which, honestly, fair. i've decided not to correct her. if she sees the dog as a tea-drinking family member with arms, who am i to say otherwise.
