I came from a wealthy business family and had access to capital most traders could only imagine. I started with large-cap companies like Reliance Industries, Tata Motors and SBI, moved into mid and small caps, then pledged holdings to trade Nifty and Bank Nifty derivatives. For years, profits made me look brilliant. Nobody saw how much leverage was underneath.
When the structure broke, the total damage across trading losses, interest and forced asset sales exceeded ₹21 crore. We sold commercial properties, land and luxury cars. My father, who had spent forty years building the business, returned to the office every morning to help stabilize it. I expected him to tell me I had destroyed his life's work. Instead, he said, "You have damaged it badly, yes. Now stay alive, stay here, and help rebuild what is left."
That sentence ended my fantasy of recovering everything through one final trade. I closed every leveraged position, gave up independent control of family capital and started working under my younger brother in the same business I once thought I was too smart to need. We are nowhere near where we were financially, but for the first time in years, nobody in the house is living inside a lie.
