Sonam Wangchuk has placed a new condition before the Centre for ending his hunger strike, and this time it isn't about his own situation.
In a letter addressed to Union ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, Wangchuk said he would call off the fast only if the government guarantees that no legal cases, harassment, or vindictive action will be taken against those who participated in the protests. He made it clear that the assurance he is seeking is for the protesters, not for himself.
Wangchuk also referred to the July 20 "Chalo Sansad" march, describing it as a peaceful demonstration despite what he called the "atrocities and disproportionate use of force" by the police. His letter shifts the focus of the ongoing movement from his personal fast to the treatment of people who joined the protests, putting the spotlight on their protection rather than his own demands.
