The plan was simple and noble. Buy a plant. Keep it alive. Become, through this small daily act of care, a More Responsible Person. A person who tends to things. A person with his life together.

The plant lasted nine days.

And it's not like I didn't try. I watched three separate YouTube videos. I followed every instruction — watering schedule, light, the whole regimen. I was diligent. I was present. And it died anyway, quietly, in defiance of all guidance, taking my entire self-improvement arc down with it.

So that's paused now. Indefinitely. The responsibility era ended in nine days with a small pot of dead leaves. Turns out you can't YouTube your way into having your life together, and my first attempt at nurturing another living thing ended in a fatality.

I have not told my mother. She does not know the plant existed, and she certainly does not know it's gone. Some failures you just quietly bury, both literally and emotionally, and never speak of again.
