Told everyone I'm a "manager." I'm two levels under that. Not even close, really.
And the thing is — nobody checked. Nobody cared. It landed with all the impact of a weather update. People nodded and moved on to the next drink.
Then I went home and felt physically sick about it. For two days. Over a word nobody will ever fact-check.
That's what gets me. I can't even name who I was performing for. The people there barely knew me then and know me less now. There was no one to impress. I just lied reflexively, like the truth wasn't enough to walk into a room with. That's the part I keep chewing on.
