My daughter is confident in a way I never was. She travels alone, speaks openly, wears what she likes, and leaves situations that make her unhappy. I'm proud of her.

But sometimes I also feel jealous. She is living with freedoms I didn't have at her age, partly because I fought to give them to her. That jealousy makes me feel like a terrible mother. I would never take those freedoms away. I just occasionally grieve for the younger version of myself who didn't get them.
