HR proudly rolled out "unlimited leave." Sounds incredible on paper. Take what you need, no counting, total freedom. I believed it, right up until I actually tried to use a meaningful amount of it.
The moment I crossed some invisible line, I learned the truth: "unlimited leave" has an unspoken cap. A limit nobody had ever mentioned, that existed silently until the exact second I bumped into it. Turns out "unlimited" came with an asterisk that was never written down anywhere.
So I did the reasonable thing and asked for the actual number in writing. If there's a real cap, fine, just tell me what it is so I can plan around it. Give me the figure.
I never received one. No number, no document, no clarity. Just the vague understanding that the limit exists, it's real, and you'll find it the way I did, by accidentally exceeding it. The policy is "unlimited" in name and firmly limited in every practical sense. The best kind of benefit: one that sounds generous until you try to actually use it.
