It’s been a while since I left my corporate job in a metro city and moved back to my hometown, Udaipur, for a quieter life.

What started as a small change gradually turned into a complete lifestyle shift.

I now run homestays for income. It’s not fixed, but it averages around ₹1L per month. Some months drop to ₹40–50k, while in peak seasons it can go up to ₹3–4L.

I also bought a house here, which serves as both my home and part of my income setup.

Life here feels very different from metro living.

What changed for me:

Expenses dropped significantly — basic living costs are around ₹20–30k/month
No daily rush or traffic; mornings feel slower and calmer
I have more control over my time compared to a fixed 9–5
Being in a tourist city keeps life interesting and social when I want it to be

But it’s not perfect:

Income isn’t stable — you need to plan buffers
Some months feel slow and uncertain
You have to build your own routine; there’s no external structure

Over time, I’ve realized this lifestyle works only if your needs are simple and you’re comfortable trading stability for flexibility.

It’s not a “perfect life,” but it feels more intentional :)

Curious if anyone else here has made a similar shift away from metro life—how has it worked out for you?
